At Marcus Engineering, the opportunity for the brightest students is only limited by their drive, not by their age or education. The Marcus Engineering Internship Program is unmatched as we allow high school and college interns to participate in real design and in some cases lead projects with real customers. We are able to provide the excitement and challenge of Silicon Valley right here in Tucson, while cultivating a strong talent pool for the Arizona Tech Ecosystem.
Meet Martin Gioannetti, a high school graduate, mountain biking and hiking enthusiast, robotics competitor, aspiring electrical and computer engineer, and recent Marcus Engineering Intern. “I came in with very little experience, and in the first few months I have learned how to write scripts in Python and Bash, interact with virtual Linux environments, source components, design schematics and PCBs in Altium, and have used, abused, and repaired 3D printers!”
Community engagement, education, enrichment, and support of the technology ecosystem and culture are big drives in our efforts to grow the top end talent pool in Arizona. As a company, we encourage every employee to pursue passion activities outside of work because the team as a whole benefit’s when individuals are growing and enriching their lives.
Kevin Forbes, MSEE at Marcus Engineering, mentors and coaches a local high school robotics team, which Martin competed on throughout high school. This past fall, despite Martin’s apprehension for not having any professional experience or college degree, he contacted Kevin to ask if he knew any companies that would take on an intern with his level of experience and skills. When asked about how he managed his nerves during the interview process and coming into a reputable engineering firm Martin shared, “I love to learn and I know that failing is the best way to learn. Marcus Engineering’s unwavering faith in me has been unbelievable. I am a high school graduate without a degree or much professional experience, and everyone here has been incredibly supportive, patient, and has challenged me to explore and absorb as much as possible.”
As an anchor innovator in the Arizona Tech Ecosystem, we strive to cultivate an environment where employees truly feel appreciated and valued. We frequently ask ourselves, “As an employer, what value are we delivering to our employees?” The value is defined by what is important to the employee and our innovative leadership style focuses on employee needs, while driving the business forward TOGETHER. We strongly encourage and support employees to be engaged, mentor, take on interns of their own, and strengthen not only our company but the community around us with our work, and personal activities.
We strive to provide a learning environment where employees feel safe to explore and grow in areas that bring excitement and enthusiasm. Our internship program aims to provide professional engineering work experience, and exposure to the many different aspects of ECE from designing, assembly, testing, manufacturing, working as a team, learning from each other, and so much more.
“My internship at Marcus Engineering has been an incredible experience. The amazing employees at Marcus Engineering have supported and challenged me and I have grown tremendously.” As Martin prepares to head off to college, he shared where he hopes to be after graduating, “I would love to be working in a job where the culture and community feel as tight as Marcus Engineering. Marcus Engineering puts their engineers before profit, and the engineers are involved in project selection which ensures they are solving interesting problems and learning. Every engineer at Marcus Engineering is extremely passionate about engineering and it shows. I want to be working for a company that has a similarly terrific ethos, culture, and community.”
Marcus Engineering thrives on strong engineering minds, a thirst for knowledge, and strong hands-on and creative aptitude. We find ourselves competing with the likes of Google for talent and as a company make great efforts to create a strong talent driven culture with Bay Area technology appeal. As our internship program grows, so does the talent resources within our Arizona Tech Ecosystem.
