It was a warm Spring evening in the southern Arizona desert. Hundreds of students were full of excitement, and hope. They had become scientists, engineers, and inventors. These students were pushed to learn, experiment, play, and all of this was in part because of Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation (SARSEF) and its partners. Established in 1955, SARSEF brings together community leaders in the science and engineering fields to teach and encourage 75,000 students each year.
On March 4th 2016, at the Tucson Convention Center, hundreds of students and leaders of industry gathered together to enjoy the judging, reception, and recognition of all who participate in, and love the Southern Arizona science and engineering community.
Dr. Patrick Marcus, owner of Marcus Engineering, was on hand to see the excitement. “To this day, I am still blown away by the miles of science fair posters which fill the convention center wall to wall. It’s such a treat and gives me faith in our community and our ability to train young scientists and engineers”
Every year Marcus Engineering supports the goals of SARSEF through time, donations, and encouragement. Dr. Marcus feels that this event, and events like it build the beginnings of a strong, well rounded community. He joked during the reception, “The scientists are all well and good, but I am really interested in the engineers that will develop out of this community.” The future of engineering will only be strong if we are committed to growing it now and keeping a strong pipeline to higher learning.
